Vocations
Who
are we?
We
are a group of men, inspired by the vision and example of Edmund
Rice, who live in community and share a life of brotherhood and
service of the disadvantaged of our society. As Brothers, we try
to imitate the life and example of Jesus with integrity, simplicity
and fidelity.
What
does "being a Brother" mean?
Being
a brother is essentially relational - with God, with other Brothers
in community, with colleagues, associates and fellow-workers, and
finally with those people to whom we minister.
The
key relationship for a Brother is his relationship with God and
with Jesus, which gives meaning, shape and purpose to his life -
this relationship is maintained through personal and community prayer,
the Scriptures, the sacraments, and the Eucharist.
In
community, the Brothers try to live a life marked by love, mutual
concern, courtesy and interdependence. In sharing our hopes and
dreams, we are committed to work together for a better world through
working with the poor and the disadvantaged of our society.
A key
relationship for a Brother is with the many men and women of all
ages who share Edmund Rice's vision and values. Working together,
in a variety of collaborative initiatives, Edmund's vision is becoming
a reality in many parts of the world.
What
does a Brother do?
The
Brothers devote their lives to working with the poor and the marginalised
of society, both at home and abroad. Moving from their traditional
ministry in schools, a Brother's work is with the less privileged
members of society, the homeless, refugees, literacy programmes,
working with those children who have dropped out of regular schooling,
and in various projects in developing countries.
